And the Award for Best Dressed Goes to…
So we have been inundated with a number of awards ceremonies recently on both sides of the Atlantic, which naturally sounds the fashion alarm for many. We started off with the Golden Globes in the United States which were swiftly followed by the National Television Awards here in the UK and then all attention was diverted back to the States for the Screen Actor Guild Awards. Meanwhile we have the Brit Awards to look forward to in the coming weeks and the Oscars not long after that. So I think it would be fair to say that this time of year is the highlight in many a fashion lover’s calendar. With so many celebrities and so many designer labels all in the same place at the same time what’s not to love?

So let’s start with the Golden Globes and it seems that almost every woman made an impact but in some cases for all the reasons. However, when it comes to style there were a few clear winners in the form of Emily Blunt and Penelope Cruz. Whilst Emily decided to add a splash of colour to the event by wearing a beautiful, strapless, pale pink Dolce and Gabbana dress Penelope decided to wow the crowds in a stunning black Armani Prive dress. Although their dresses were at polar extremes from one another both made an equally big impression and ensured both ladies hit the mark in the style department. What’s more both women kept their accessories to a minimum and let their dresses speak for themselves. Both Emily and Penelope simply wore a few statement pieces of jewellery, which complemented their ensembles beautifully without detracting from them.

Whilst the Golden Globes saw the Hollywood elite turn out in abundance the National Television Awards saw the who’s who of British television arrive in their droves. Furthermore I think it would be fair to say that us Brits were just as excited about seeing what the stars of the small screen in Britain wore as we were about finding out what Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston wore at the Golden Globes. However, there was one person who stole the show at this year’s NTAs and that was none other than Dannii Minogue. All eyes were on the starlet after she recently announced that she was pregnant and she had to live up to given the outfits she wore throughout X factor if truth be told she did not disappoint. In the fact the mum to be looked absolutely stunning in the black and white striped, prom style, vintage dress that she wore along with a pair of killer red heels! Although it should be said that other dresses which made an impact on the night were those worn by Tess Daley and Amanda Holden, with both women oozing class and sophistication.

However, fast forward to the weekend and we saw the Hollywood A listers congregate again for another ceremony, this time it was the Screen Actor Guild Awards. This time it was the cast of the film Nine, which includes actresses Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard, who caught everyone’s eye. Nicole Kidman, whose outfit has appeared to catch people’s attention for all the wrong reasons, wore a floor length, strapless, Aztec inspired dress. However, Nicole fashion faux pas was more than compensated for by her Nine co-stars. Whilst Marion opted for a shorter length, white Elie Saab Haute Couture dress complete with feathers around the hem Penelope wore a calf length, shimmering black dress by L’Wren Scott, which hugged her curves beautifully. Meanwhile Kate Hudson choose to wear an exquisite backless, floor length, white Emilio Pucci gown which showed offer the star’s beautiful figure perfectly, some might even say her gown was the dress of the evening.

So with such high standards having already been set it would seem that the stars on both sides of the Atlantic are really going to have to raise the bar when it comes to future awards ceremonies such as the Brit awards and the Oscars. However with stars with impeccable taste such as Fearne Cotton and Penelope Cruz likely to be in attendance at the respective awards ceremonies I doubt very much we will be left disappointed.
