Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I was super busy traveling around so didn’t have a chance to make many updates over the holidays. Getting ready for a big New Year’s bash and if you are anything like me you’ve been thinking about what to wear for weeks now! I like to make a statement on New Years Eve and dress ultra fancy. It’s a special night so I always want to look the part.

The fashion divas put together a really fantastic article with different styles that one might want to consider for NYE this year. My favorite has to be the classic cocktail dress look (as pictured in this post). The cocktail dress is one of the best choices for a New Years party because it’s a little out of the ordinary and can help you stand out from the crowd. You’ll look super pretty and sophisticated at the same time. I’ll be going with some kind of textured fabric along with plain black wedge heels.

Here’s wishing all you Fashion Crazed gals out there a very fun and happy New Year! May 2012 be good to you

For those of you who don’t know, I am from Toronto, Canada (Yes, believe it or not we can be pretty fashionable up here!) and it can get mighty cold here during the winter months. Those of you living in colder climates probably already know the challenge of staying warm but still looking hot during the winter time. Save those old knitted sweaters for this year’s ugly sweater Christmas party and put on something that will make you feel hot on the inside and out.

The first thing anyone should do is to invest in a nice warm winter jacket. You’ll want to get one that is appropriate for the climate you live in. Obviously someone living up in Minnesota will need a heavier jacket then someone living down in Arkansas. I’d highly advise sticking with neutral colors (browns, greys or blacks). One winter I was bold and bought a white coat… It looked nice when it was clean, but keeping it clean was more hassle than it was worth.

Always remember to layer up! This is a great secret to keeping warm but still being able to wear what you want. You could try wearing a camisole under your t-shirt or a tank top underneath a thin long sleeved shirt. You can still wear a dress, but be sure to put on some tights and thermal leggings.

And most importantly, always have a nice pair of mitts along with some warm boots and different colored scarves in your closet. Having a variety of scarves that you can wear with any outfit is key. Not only do they keep you all cozy and warm, but they can really add a great look to any outfit.

I am a sucker for anything sparkly (as long as it’s tasteful) and I’m always looking for new ideas to glam up my winter wardrobe. That’s why I wanted to share with you this quick slideshow from Refinery29 with a few great ideas on how to add a little sparkle into your life this winter season. The best part is these are all fairly inexpensive ways to get your glitter on over the holidays.

When I look to add a little bit of sparkle it’s mostly in the shoes for me. For most of my holiday Christmas parties this year you’ll probably find me wearing some nice glittery shoes with my outfits. They look especially great with any animal print dresses or plain dresses accented with a little fur. Or if you really want to stand out from the crowd, an entire metallic dress would do the trick! I’m not that daring though

There’s just something about this time of year that brings out the sparkle in all of us!

With the winter season rapidly approaching, it is time to start getting out your warm clothing and cold weather gear. If during the process you find that your winter wardrobe could use some attention, try not to stress out about it. There are some easy ways to expand your winter wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Make a List

Before you can begin expanding, you should go through your current winter wardrobe to determine what pieces of clothing you need and make a list of them. If you have some winter garments that are still decent and wearable, do not add those things your list. By making a list you will be able to stay on track and purchase only the winter items you absolutely need. Sticking to a list helps you save money because you are less likely to get sidetracked by unnecessary things.

Create a Budget and Stick to It

After you have made your list of winter wardrobe essentials, create a budget and decide what you can afford to spend on each item you need. Write the price limit next to each item on your list so you will be sure not go over it. If you stick to your budget, you will be able to purchase everything you need without overspending. Even if you find a garment you really love, try to resist buying it if it is well over the price limit you have established. Go to another store and see if you can find something similar for a better price. If you can’t and decide to buy the item you love, you may have to remove something else from your list in order to stay close to your budget.

Watch for Sales

One of the best ways to expand your winter wardrobe for less is to watch for sales at your favorite stores. Many of them offer great sales on winter merchandise during the fall months. Weekly ads are a great way to stay informed of all the latest sales and deals, and they often contain coupons that can save you even more on your purchases. If you find a store that is having a sale on many of the items you need, be sure to check it out. Remember to look online at your favorite retailers’ websites also, as online stores usually offer many sales throughout the year as well.

Clearance Racks

A great way to expand your winter wardrobe on the cheap is to shop clearance racks at the end of the winter season. Although this means you will probably have to wait until the next winter to wear your purchases, clearance racks can really save you a lot of money on the things you need. Some stores may even put winter merchandise on clearance earlier in the season, so be sure to scan the racks every time you go shopping.

Thrift Stores

Many people think that thrift stores only carry outdated or ugly clothes, but the truth is they often carry gently used, name brand merchandise for very reasonable prices. It is for this reason that you should check all the thrift stores in your area to see if they have any items that you could use to expand your winter wardrobe. You never know, you may just find the jacket of your dreams for next to nothing. Also, if you do find many things on your list at a thrift store, just think how much money will be left out of your budget. You may be able to splurge on something bigger if you keep your other purchases smaller.

If you are looking to expand your winter wardrobe but don’t have a lot of money to do so, give these helpful tips a try. They are all great ways to add essential winter items to your closet without putting too much stress on your wallet. Once you see how easy it can be to expand your winter wardrobe for less, you will be glad you took the time to check these ideas out.

When you are newly expecting and starting to contemplate what you will look like in maternity clothes, you’ll inevitably start seeing heavily pregnant women in dungarees, duck-patterned huge shirts, and unflattering training pants all around. Does pregnancy mean that you are convicted to looking ridiculous as soon as you start “showing”? Will you have to say goodbye to your fashion sense and accept your destiny of looking horrible? Not at all! You may have to be a bit more creative to look great in pregnancy, though.

Here are five tips that will help you get through your pregnancy fashionably.

1. Waist-expanders and belly bands are great!
In the early stages of pregnancy, and perhaps even beyond, waist-expanders are your friend. They will allow you to keep wearing your pre-pregnancy clothes much longer. Once your shirts are getting too short, another great accessory is the belly band. They come in many different colors and with prints as well, and they allow you to wear your regular shirts without having a bare belly. You can wear them under or over shirts.

2. Invest in fewer quality pieces
Maternity clothes can be very nice, but the more high-end items tend to be pricey. Remember that pregnancy only lasts nine months, and that you will be wearing maternity clothes of less than that. You can get away with having three pants, a skirt, a dress, five shirts and jacket or two just fine, as long as the clothes you have are nice and of good quality.

3. Buy online
Online maternity stores offer a lot more variety. Whether you are after a gothic look or need professional maternity wear for at work, you will find it online, and for less money than in maternity boutiques. Online discussion forums for pregnant women often have great tips about online shops for maternity wear.

4. Tunics and A-line dresses can be your new best friends
Some of the non-maternity tunics and short, A-line dresses that I bought during my last pregnancy three years ago are still favorites in my wardrobe. These flexible pieces can help you look great while you are suffering from pregnancy signs and symptoms, and will even hide your postpartum belly after you give birth. You can wear short dresses with pants while you are expecting, and return them to regular dress duty once you give birth.

5. Accessorize
Are you a shopaholic? You may be better off investing money in great accessories that you will be able to use after pregnancy too, while keeping your maternity wardrobe relatively simple. Bags, scarves, and shoes, won’t be too big for you once you have your baby. Mind you, some women actually go up one shoe size after a pregnancy, so that is something you should keep in mind.

With a plethora of high street fashion stores on the doorstep and the internet providing the ability to buy anything from anywhere, there’s hardly any reason to move too far in any particular direction. But where’s the fun in that? Yes, you can let the latest styles come to you or you can jet off and investigate at the source. But if you have a hankering for some glamour, where are the best destinations to get that fashion fix? Here are some options…

PARIS
Of course! It’s the capital of fashion with the focus on elegance. How can you argue you a country that invented the phrase Haute Couture and where chic oozes from every boulevard? Visiting during Fashion Week is an unforgettable experience, though tickets are almost impossible to find. Though it’s just as fun to watch the beautiful people come and go on the Carousel du Louvre or amble along the famous Avenue Montaigne home to some of the city’s enticing stores. The vast Galeries Lafayette department store has to be seen to be believed but can be a little overwhelming. For a more manageable and edgy experience, try Colette on Rue Saint-Honore.

NEW YORK
There are not too many places that can boast an entire fashion district, but in Manhattan, that’s what you get. Saunter down Fashion Avenue and revel in some of the most unique and extraordinary runway creations. Or conversely, investigate SoHo or Chinatown and unearth smaller design houses and quirky boutiques. New York feels like the whole world rolled into one. You could spend an entire day in Bloomingdales, Macys, Saks, Barneys or Century 21 alone. Or if you’re looking for that perfect item that you know no-one else will have, head over to Brooklyn and explore the huge used clothing outlet that is Beacon’s Closet. The only thing you can’t buy in the Big Apple is extra time to indulge in all these places.

TOKYO
If you wish to witness living and breathing fashion – rather than the more staid experiences on offer in Paris or Milan – then head to Tokyo. It feels as if you’ve entered a fashion laboratory, with the next wave of trends and ideas parading the streets, demanding attention. Shibuya is the district to view the most extreme street styles and see some of Tokyo’s infamous fashion subcultures (such as Gothic Lolitas and Kogals) in action. Drop in on a Sunday to see Harajuku fashion displayed on Harajuku Bridge. By contrast, the beautiful, elegant Wako department store in Ginza, is known for its selection of watches, jewellery, handbags and foreign imports. Or if you find the whole thing slightly overwhelming, sign-up for a bespoke fashion tour, where the top shops and destinations are chosen for you.

SAO PAULO
While Brazil is known for hot beach fashions – or moda praia – or citizens wearing very little at all during Carnival, Sao Paulo is quickly gaining a reputation as a fashion hub. The city’s Fashion Week has joined the big-hitters of Paris, London and New York as a trend-spotting staple. The huge Daslu department store is home to 60 labels plus 30 store-in-stores and is where the great and good of Brazilian society snap up their couture creations. In the Morumbi district, head to the Cidade Jardim mall for a mouth-watering selection of luxury brands or try the Iguatemi Faria Lima, the oldest shopping destination in Brazil.

MILAN
As it’s the home to such fashion goliaths as Gucci, Prada, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Versace, Milan has to be on the itinerary of any globetrotting glamour puss. The Italians know style and luxury and Milan is the ideal place to drool in the windows of luxury outlets or splash out on that once-in-a-lifetime handbag or pair of shoes at the prestigious 10 Corso Como. If couture is a little out of your price range, the flea market in Fiera di Sengallia always contains some quirky bargains while designer duds at knock down prices can be found at the Serravalle Scrivia outlets.
