Happy 25th LFW

September 25, 2009

Well this wouldn’t be a fashion blog, let alone a British based fashion blog, if there was no mention of London Fashion Week. This year the biannual event celebrated its 25th anniversary, and celebrate it did. The event has been a great success, bigger and better than any other year, and it seems the anniversary of this extremely prestigious event couldn’t have been celebrated in a better way.

In fact London Fashion Week was celebrated on such a large scale that even politicians and their wives got involved. That’s right the Prime Minister and his wife Sarah Brown held a cocktail party in order to mark the opening of the event. I know what you must be thinking, because I thought the same thing when I first heard about this, the guest list for this party must be pretty poor, it’s probably made up entirely of politicians who nothing about fashion, so what’s the point in the party? Well it turns out we couldn’t be more wrong. The guest list to this party, read like the A-Z of who’s who in the world of fashion. Attendees at the party included a mix of established fashion designers, up and coming designers, fashion journalists and government officials, what a mix!

Not only this, but LFW also managed to successfully re-attract well established, successful designers such as Burberry, Matthew Williamson and Pringle, all of which had previously favoured other international shows as the platform to premiere their creations. However, it seems that the celebration of LFW’s 25th anniversary was enough to lure them back, and thank goodness they came back because they added that little bit of an extra sparkle to the occasion. In fact if recent reports are anything to go by Burberry was the star of the show. Once a brand with a tarnished reputation it seems the fashion house is back to on top, with designs being received well by critics and A-listers clambering to sit in the front row of their show, a sure sign that this is a must have designer brand.

However, this is only the tip of the iceberg, there was much more going on at LFW not to mention the fact that the event has changed location to Somerset House, the furore of Mark Fast’s use of size 14 models in his catwalk show or any of the trends that were revealed at the event. So with so many eventful things having taken place one thing is for sure this was a London Fashion Week that no one will forget.
