Madonna is an international superstar, a world renowned signer and someone who is recognised in almost every country in the world. So it is little wonder that Dolce & Gabbana have used her to front their Spring/Summer 2010 women’s wear advertising campaign. She is after all one of the most talked about women in the showbiz world so if Madonna can’t create a buzz around a campaign then who can?
Stefano Gabanna tweeted over the weekend to say how excited and happy he was to have Madonna on board as a model for his brand and he even leaked a few details about the campaign. We now know that the campaign was shot by the extremely renowned photographer Steven Klein in Brooklyn, New York. In addition, the collection is Sicilian inspired, and this strong theme will be evident throughout the entire campaign. OK so I know it’s not a lot of information but it’s a start at least!
Madonna first meet the infamous design duo that make up Dolce & Gabbana back in the early nineties and despite being a long time fan of their designs this is the first time she has ever fronted a campaign for them. However, they did design her entire wardrobe for her “The Girlie Show” tour in 1993.
Although this is the first time that Madonna has headed a campaign for Dolce & Gabbana she is certainly no stranger to modelling designer clothes. Most recently she fronted a campaign for Louis Vuitton, she modelled for this infamous design house for two seasons and even modelled their Autumn/Winter 09 handbag collection. However, since then Madonna has been replaced by a relatively unknown model called Lara Stone, which is quite unusual for this particular design house as in the past they have tended to favour high profile A list celebrities as the face of their campaigns.
Despite being replaced by a much younger model at Louis Vuitton I doubt Madonna will be too upset as very few women have the opportunity to model for one of the most famous and sought after design houses at the age of 51!
